Sumy State University (SumDU)

is a state accredited (nationally accredited) higher education institution of a classical type located in the city of Sumy, North-Eastern part of Ukraine. University follows the ideology of a research educational and social oriented complex institution where a large-scale international cooperation and the focus on innovation technologies, in particular ICT, are prioritized. Educational and research activity of SumDU is comprehensive and embraces a wide scope of areas from engineering and ICT to natural sciences, medicine and humanities. 

The University currently serves about 14,000 students who are pursuing bachelor, master and PhD degrees in 55 majors and 23 fields of knowledge in particular in medicine, pediatrics, physical therapy and rehabilitation. Currently, more than 1,750 foreign students at SumDU represent 50 countries worldwide. 15 study programmes are entirely taught in English.

SumDU is highly ranked at national level, enters the TOP-group (3%) of leading universities of the world and is classified as a university with high research intensity according to the QS World University Rankings and is included into THE World University Rankings by Times Higher Education. Sumy State University confirms its leading position in the young universities ranking from QS for the 4th year in a row, and entered the respective ranking from Times Higher Education. Currently, SumDU is the only representative of Ukraine in this category of rankings. According to the University Impact Rankings by Times Higher Education, Sumy State University is in TOP-300 universities worldwide by the societal and economic impact. Sumy State University ranked 801+ in the recent THE University Rankings in Engineering and Technology.  According to the worldwide Internet rankings, Webometrics SumDU takes 3rd place among Ukrainian universities. It also takes high positions in the European ranking U-Multirank that identifies most of the indicators of academic, extracurricular, international and other activity of SumDU as being higher than the world average value.

SumDU is a signatory of Magna Charta Universitatum and a reliable member of most authoritative international organizations – International Association of Universities and  European University Association.

Basing on a substantial experience of international cooperation SumDu has adopted its Internationalization Strategy for 2019-2025. One of the strategic goals is to develop high quality and internationally recognized study programmes. 

SumDU has proved to be a reliable partner for joint projects in frames of international programmes in particular funded by European Commission. The results of such projects are ensured a sustainable impact to major directions of University development i.e. modernization of curricula addressing European standards, development of quality assurance system, introduction of modern teaching and learning technologies, professional development of staff etc.
