The present of agricultural science in Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University

For the second year, we live in the COVID-19 world, which has led us into online life by 99%, where only 1% is left for shopping and the road to/from work. We really miss the “live” communication, the opportunity to exchange ideas and energy, so to somehow compensate for this fact, we continue the work of the blog AgriSciences UA, where we talk about the successes and goals for the future of our dear participants. And this time we are hospitably welcomed by Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University.

Standing in front of the main building of the university, you feel that the origins of educational traditions in Bila Tserkva go back to deep history. There is a historical connection between previous educational institutions and the modern agricultural university, which originates from the Vinnytsia collegium, and was located in the same building from 1847.

But interesting, how does the university live today? And Tetyana Dyman – Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, Vice-Rector for Education and International Affairs – will help us to find out about this. So let’s get started!

–What is the “raisin” of your educational institution?

–Active internationalization of educational activities is our priority. Currently, Bila Tserkva Agrarian University is a member of such international associations as the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE), Baltic University Program (BUP), Visegrad Group, carries out international cooperation with the Czech University of Life Sciences (CULS, Prague), participate in the double degree program with the Pomeranian Academy (Slupsk, Poland), in Erasmus + projects (KA1, KA2, Jean Monnet, Erasmus Mundus) and others.

–What do you think about the AgriSciences UA platform for the scientific improvement of higher education institutions in Ukraine?

–The platform promotes the development of interdisciplinary research, a cooperation of Ukrainian higher education institutions with each other and with foreign partners, joint teaching and research activities of students and  stimulating them, improving the quality of education process in accordance with European standards and recommendations (ESG, 2015).

– In your opinion, which important issues AgriSciences UA platform helped your university in 2020?

–The platform financially supported young scientists of the university who are conducting dissertation research in the field of agricultural sciences. That is something I consider crucial and extremely helpful for us. Also, a huge step is some of the joint research papers published in international scientific journals, which could happen due to the support from AgriSciences UA platform.

–What is the approximate number of participants who took part in the events announced on this platform, who were more actively involved in them: students, graduate students, teachers?

–Approximately  around 100 people were actively involved in the events, most of them were graduate students, PhD students, students participating in the work of scientific groups, young teachers.

–Modern science and its popularization among young people: the role of AgriSciences UA in this case? In your opinion, what are the ways to interest a modern student or graduate student?

–In this case, the platform serves as a kind of guide and helps to orient young scientists and those who are just beginning their scientific path in the implementation of research, guiding them in a promising scientific direction. This approach allows you to continue your research activities in cooperation with foreign partners or promotes more successful employment. As for modern youth, it is possible to increase interest in science through material incentives, it is both a high scholarship and a decent future salary.

–What are your thoughts on the development of cooperation in the research field?

–An international team can be formed to prepare a project for participation in the Erasmus or Horizon competition. That could be a great success and our plan for the future.

– What do you expect from the AgriSciences UA platform in the future?

–The first is the continuation of cooperation in various international projects. Secondly, joint scientific publications in journals indexed by international scientometric databases, and thirdly – the exchange of best practices in improving the quality of education and holding an international scientific conference.

So, these are the first results of the AgriSciences UA platform for Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University.

And finally, I would like to add that once in the XVIII century, William Pitt Amherst made the following statement: “In the bad old days, there were three easy ways to go bankrupt: the fastest of them was racing, the most pleasant was women, and the most reliable was agriculture“. But as we see, the advent of science has changed everything, so in our hands all the opportunities to destroy this stereotype completely!
