Environmental engineering research in Donetsk-Dnieper region, Ukraine

Donetsk-Dnieper region occupies the central and eastern part of Ukraine, and it is characterized by intensive agriculture, as a result, the presence of many agricultural hydraulic structures on irrigation systems, as well as the region is characterized by the extraction of various minerals, primarily ferruginous quartzite and coal etc. This influence and led to the presence of two scientific directions in my research.

My professional intentions are focused on obtaining the necessary skills and the main directions of development of research in the field of environmental engineering: assessment of the technical condition of agricultural hydraulic structures; assessment of filtration losses from the objects of the water reclamation complex; acquaintance with methods of surface water quality assessment according to ecological and agronomic criteria. For example, the research team that I am a member of, assessed the technical state of dams of hydraulic structures and tailings using a set of geophysical methods (method of natural pulse electromagnetic field of Earth (NPEMFE) and the vertical electric sounding (VES) method) that provided reliable data quickly and are cheaper compared to other methods. Assessment of the risk of flooding development and secondary salinization of soils is emphasized by the long service life of water infrastructure facilities.
I am engaged in research in the field of environmental safety of territories with a developed mining industry, which is my second research line. Along with my team, we research the influence of the ore dump on the environmental safety is considered, as a rule, from the point of view of the following aspects: significant land allotment, dusting, and precipitation from the dump surface. The issues of geomechanically modeling of the impact of mining dumps and the adjacent territories are insufficiently studied to date. The main results of research are as follows: further dumping heaps of rocky breeds assists with the reduction to power of layers of mountain breeds, their coefficients of porosity and filtration that assists forming of technogenic aquiferous horizon, development of dangerous anthropogenic processes on adherent territories: development of karst and landslides.
Based on mineralogical research of standards of pedigree models, after compression there is reasonable possibility of intercommunication of internal dump waters with underground as a result of violation of integrity of antilauter protective screen. Moreover, research is this area is growing. Additionally, technogenic territories, using a geophysical method, the ways of water filtration, the violation of the integrity of the massifs in the body of the dams, the development of landslides and other types of engineering work were studied by group of researchers, which I am a member of. I am also interested in the generation of electromagnetic pulses in the thickness of soil massifs under the influence of various factors, including with a variable application of pressure & in the geochemical transformations of atmospheric precipitation that pass through the dumps body. I propose to exchange knowledge and experience in the field of environmental safety.
