Invited lecture by Prof. Lesia Karpuk: “Crop production: opportunities and challenges in UKRAINE” which took place on Monday 19th
Prof. Lesia Karpuk is a Professor at Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University (Ukraine). She is a teacher of Innovative technologies of modern crop production, Methodology and organization of scientific research with the basics of intellectual property, Basics of the scientific research, Statistical analysis in agronomy, Land reclamation. She was a participant of European projects (Estonia, Germany, The Netherlands), of Erasmus projects: (France, Turkey). She made an internship and mobility in France, Estonia, Germany, The Netherlands. Mrs. Lesia Karpuk has some fundamental and practical scientific research works about biological and technological basis of intensification of main crops production. Also, she worked with methods of development and improvement of elements of technologies for main crops growing, statistical and theoretical methods of investigation.
“Crop production: opportunities and challenges in UKRAINE”
Since ancient times, Ukraine has been and remains a powerful producer of winter and spring grain, legumes, cereals and sugar beets. But the achieved level of their production in the country is still significantly inferior to the advanced countries of the world and does not satisfy the need for high-quality food and fodder grain and industrial crops.
The widespread introduction of intensive technologies for growing agricultural crops ensured an increase in their productivity. But, as the analysis shows, it was accompanied by significant, not always substantiated additional one’s costs of material and energy resources. And given the high cost of the latter, this did not always justify itself. Therefore, there was a need to develop and implement in production such resource- and energy-saving technologies for growing agricultural crops, which would have a directed economic character, contribute to the effective use of not only fertilizers, pesticides, fuel, machines and tools, but also natural resources.
This problem can be successfully solved if the main parameters of the formation of highly productive agrophytoceonoses of new generation cultivars are developed, which have a regulatory basis for building technology models in the system “plant – cultivar – soil (crop rotation) – fertilizers, tillage – chemical protection – hydrothermal conditions”.

Nataliia Dyman is a Master of Ecology, a junior lecturer at the Department of language training for foreign students at Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University, and an expert at the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance. Natalia’s main research interest lies in the field of environmental education, namely in studying the possibilities and methods of raising environmental awareness among young people.
