Laboratory of Physiology and Biochemistry of Plant Stress

One of the trends in modern phytophysiology is the study of the role of signal mediators, among which nitric oxide (NO) plays a special role, in the formation of adaptive responses of plants to adverse environmental influences. It is in close functional interaction with other signal mediators – calcium ions, reactive oxygen species (ROS), as well as other gasotransmitters, including little-studied carbon monoxide (CO). Polyamines are stress metabolites of plants involved in the regulation of redox homeostasis and signaling processes. There are single data on the ability of polyamines to induce NO formation in plants. At the same time, the question of the role of NO as the signal mediator in the processes of induction of plant resistance to the action of stressors by exogenous CO and polyamines remains open. The project is aimed at solving fundamental problems in the field of stress plant physiology. It provides for the clarification of the NO role in the process of induction of plant heat resistance by the action of putrescine and CO donor hemin. It is assumed for the first time to discover the effect of the functional interaction of NO and reactive oxygen species during the realization of hemin protective action and putrescine on plants under hyperthermia. The results obtained will become the basis for the development of practical methods of induction of heat resistance of grain crops.

Key words: Signal mediators; nitric oxide; carbon monoxide; polyamines; reactive oxygen species; heat resistance of plants
