Evaluation and improvement of cereal grain quality by nutrient value

Objectives of the project

The objectives of our experiments are the description of the variation by nutrient value (content of some elements) new winter wheat perspective lines and varieties (Ukrainian and European Union origin). Content of potassium, calcium, phosphorus, sulphur, magnesium, zinc, cuprum, molybdenum, cobalt, chromium, manganese, iodine, selenium will be evaluated in terms of project. One of the main tasks is to increase nutrient value of cereals grain under specific conditions of our region by local and EU breeding lines and varieties with more balanced composition of key macro- and microelements. Second purpose is to introduce complex studies on the all-round evaluation of cereals into the general experience for further improvement not only in terms of grain productivity, technological quality of grains, but also in the content of chemical elements that are necessary for normal life, but are rather poorly represented in cereals, like as sulphur, magnesium, zinc, molybdenum, cobalt, manganese, iodine, selenium.

Key words: cereals; grain quality; microelements; food nutrient
